Essential IT Services: Security Cameras, CCTV, DVR Security - 02/09/09

Peace Of Mind With Your IT Spend

More and more homeowners and small business owners are installing security cameras in their residential and commercial properties to increase security and add peace of mind. NYC video surveillance systems are increasingly sophisticated and can incorporate anything from digital video recorder equipment to spy cameras.

These CCTV and DVR systems are integrated into a business’s IT network or into any home automation system to form a total security package. Most business owners—and home office workers--just think about firewalls and anti-virus software when they think of IT security, but total integrated New Jersey security systems offer the most protection and are the easiest to manage.

Perhaps you’re already familiar with closed circuit TV or networked cameras. These IP cameras send digital video over an intranet or LAN, which can be managed through a browser. (All necessary software is installed on a remote server.) Because they’re quite simple to install and use, many of UPTIME's corporate clients have chosen CCTV systems (NYC). The systems are frequently used in storefronts and single entry office buildings.

Digital Video Recorder (DVR) Security Systems in New York and New Jersey are another option for clients who need more sophisticated security system, like banks, casinos or offices with multiple high traffic entrances. DVR systems are really just a more advanced form of CCTV: they offer business owners a higher quality picture and more features like motion detection and even e-mail alerts. Another advantage to DVR systems is that they can record many more hours of surveillance than CCTV or networked cameras can.

What does one of these CCTV or DVR systems look like? In general, they include a monitor, DVR recorders, one to several cameras depending on the size of the location, cables, brackets and connectors. (The number of cables and connectors will decrease if you choose to integrate wireless cameras into your system.)

Other options include using hidden or “spy” cameras if you don’t want the surveillance system to be easily spotted. Dummy or fake cameras are also popular as they can give your surveillance system the appearance of being more extensive than it is.

The key to any surveillance system is proper installation, use and maintenance as well as appropriate integration into your current IT system. Software updates and network maintenance become as critical for your security as they are for any of your office IT functions.
